Rail Additions

Last updated 7 years, 10 months ago

We've added a few new basic mechanics to railway systems.

New Recipes

  • You can make rails much cheaper by replacing the wood stick in the Minecraft recipe for rails and you will get 64x rails instead.

Yellow Wool Boosters

Yellow wool placed under tracks gradually boosts the speed of passing Minecarts.

  • Yellow wool is more effective and cheaper than golden booster rails, although it is not a complete replacement.
  • Minecarts that travel over yellow wool disappear if they have no passenger.

Because yellow wools boost gradually, they should be placed 2-4 blocks before inclines, otherwise they will not act quick enough. Yellow wool blocks can be typically spaced apart at least 50 blocks

Station Boosters

Green wool placed under tracks slows passing minecarts to a constant but slow speed, which is ideally suited for pass-through stations and also as cosmetic rail crossings.

High Speed Rails

If you have a straight, completely flat section of rail, you can turn it into a high speed rail. Carts that pass over a high speed section will have significantly increased maximum speed, but they will also be unable to turn corners at speed or handle inclines.

Place a gold block underneath the track to activate high speed carts. Use gray wool to deactive high speed carts.

Sometimes you will need multiple gray wool blocks because the cart may "miss" the gray wool blocks when going at maximum speed.

To handle turns on high speed rail lines, slow down carts with gray wool before the turn.

Yellow wool is depicted above but it is not part of high speed rails, but it will accelerate carts to their maximum speed.

Dispensers

  • When a minecart collides into a dispenser, the minecart will simply disappear.
  • Dispensers dispense minecarts infinitely, as long as there is track in front of them.
  • Dispeners can also be placed below the block that is below track, and they will dispense on the track above.

Pressure Plates

  • Pressure plates pick up players when a Minecart passes the plate.

Signs

  • Signs placed next to the rail or next to the block under the rail will emit messages in chat to the player, provided the sign is facing the player.

Minecarts

  • When two Minecarts approach each other in opposite directions, they will swap places instead of colliding.
  • While not 100% consistent, Minecarts often times kill animals that are on the track that are in the way.

Nether Portals

  • When you enter a Nether portal on a Minecart, you will not disembark and instead your cart will end up on the other side on the nearest available rail (if any), with velocity.
