As some of you probably guessed, we are planning a mining world reset. The reset is currently scheduled for sometime on March 12, 2013 (Pacific time, GMT -0800), which is around 7 days from today.

Please retrieve anything that you would wish to save from the mining world before this date. This reset does not affect any other world.

On an unrelated note, if you ever cared about what goes on in an MC server, I wrote a long post about it:
http://www.sk89q.com/2013/03/improving-your-minecraft-servers-performance/

About the JVisualVM tip on that page, you can also use it on the client, which tells you why your FPS is so low.

LogiPipes is now hitting 30-55% of the server's CPU usage.
Frame borers are using ~16% of the CPU.

We have to do something drastic about it.

  • Crashing caused by corrupted chunks was really fixed today I think. fx, etc. can rejoin.
  • I still have to restore chunks.
  • I still have to restore Shadow's TC stuff.
  • The NY Alice mirror is down until I can fix it tomorrow.
  • C9's music stream is broke for the same reason as the NY mirror (server got moved).

EDIT: I STILL HAVEN'T DONE ANY OF THIS.

Down at the moment. I am not sure what happened. We will keep you informed.
EDIT: Up for now. Seems mega slow.

Modular Power Suits had to be removed as we have identified it as the cause of the increased bandwidth usage. It was added in the last update of a few days ago (Alice patch 9a) and provided higher-tier armor above IndustrialCraft 2's Quantum Armor.
  1. It easily consumed a sustained excess of 50-100 kilobytes/sec of bandwidth per player. For comparison, Minecraft usually does not hit a sustained 10-20 kilobytes/second for most areas.
  2. It used a disproportionate of CPU for the purpose of the mod.

I'm afraid that we will not seeing it return at this time. If you made the items already, please post in this forum.

After the last Alice update, the server seems to be sending a substantially larger number of packets to people, and when the given connection between the server and a user cannot handle it, the common experience is overall lag and eventual forceful disconnection. I am looking into the cause of the increased bandwidth usage.

  • Fixed the FTP server failing to authenticate (I think).
  • Made the authorization wizard better.

  • As you may know, there was a world border set when the server started, but sometime between then and now, it stopped functioning. The border is currently set back at 10,000 blocks out from 0, 0 (therefore providing a 20,000 by 20,000 area), but because there are people who have already built past that border, that presents a problem. If you are one of these affected individuals, please post in this forum and we will deal with your case one by one. Depending on the situation, I may either extend the border or transplant your chunks from their original area to any new area of your choosing.
  • ComputerCraft users can now access computers via an FTP server. Please see this thread for more information.
  • Those who were affected by missing chunks due to the recent crash may have to wait for a little more as I still have to write a program to copy the chunks, which is not too difficult.
