I believe the ComputerCraft FTP server has been fixed.

SOMEONE TEST IT.

So, it TURNS OUT, the New York mirror for Alice (ny.alice.sk89q.com) stopped being a mirror because I mixed up IP addresses, and therefore ny.alice.sk89q.com was the exact same as alice.sk89q.com, meaning that it didn't fix any latency problems at all.

But now I have fixed it! It may take up for a day for the change to take effect for you. You can check to see whether the change has taken effect for you by going to http://ny.alice.sk89q.com and seeing if the page says "Hi"

If you are in the United States, I recommend connecting with the address ny.alice.sk89q.com (instead of alice.sk89q.com), which should give most people a better connection to the server.

Also, I still have to re-enable mining lasers and stuff this week. And read 40 PMs. Annnd push a client update.

As many of you may have known, IC2 mining lasers bypassed chunk claims. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to actually fix the problem, so instead I have temporarily banned them entirely.

When I get a chance (possibly this Wednesday), I will see if I can find time to re-enable them.

Note: Someone entirely decimated someone else's base with a mining laser. We were able to restore it, but it is not feasible for us to fix these kind of problems every time they came up.

UPDATE: The mining laser might return this Wednesday.

As promised a week ago, the mining world has been reset.

If you do not know what the mining world is, it did not affect you. See http://skcraft.com/wiki/mining-world/ for more information.

I've moved the New York mirror server to a new server in the same area, which seems to have a 20-30 ms faster connection to the real server in Germany. The change may not take effect for you for 1-2 days.

You can connect to the mirror using:
ny.alice.sk89q.com

It is the exact same server as the main Alice -- it is merely a proxy. This is how it works:

Note that if you are east of the proxy, you should not try.

As some of you probably guessed, we are planning a mining world reset. The reset is currently scheduled for sometime on March 12, 2013 (Pacific time, GMT -0800), which is around 7 days from today.

Please retrieve anything that you would wish to save from the mining world before this date. This reset does not affect any other world.

On an unrelated note, if you ever cared about what goes on in an MC server, I wrote a long post about it:
http://www.sk89q.com/2013/03/improving-your-minecraft-servers-performance/

About the JVisualVM tip on that page, you can also use it on the client, which tells you why your FPS is so low.

LogiPipes is now hitting 30-55% of the server's CPU usage.
Frame borers are using ~16% of the CPU.

We have to do something drastic about it.
