There's something in Thermal Expansion crashing the server.

I'm not removing TE at this time, but I am going to have to figure out how to fix it. I'd recommend not using TE if possible.

To firefrisk and anouk8: Your area causes the crashing at the moment.

Alice has been updated to Minecraft 1.4.7 with update #3! The launcher should update your game automatically on login.

  • Fixed serious bugs with teleporting between worlds.

  • Fixed a thousand other things.
  • Hostile mobs are re-enabled for the time being.

There is a new crafting interface, but you can disable it by clicking in the top left.

There's some important information regarding Alice:
  • For the first week or so, things are going to change as we figure things out. With new mods and a new version of Minecraft, as well as a new server that we are using, there are, to say the least, many new problems to deal with. Slot sizes may change, mods may come and go, and other changes will be in the near forseeable future.
  • We hope to more or less fix block lag increasingly better over the coming days. It is caused by many things though -- each object in the game (an entity or a block) takes up a finite and sometimes variable sized time to "think", and when the time consumed by all of these items in one server "tick" exceeds 1/20th of a second, there is block lag. Fixing block lag is like balancing a budget -- there are not often many "big pieces of the pie" to cut out, but rather it's a process of figuring out which small pieces to remove.
  • Because we're in a kind of "beta period," the slot size is expected to vary. Unfortunately we will likely not keep it at the usual 40 until we believe that we can handle a larger concurrent number of players. For you, it measn that you may not be able to get on when the server is full. We're considering different things to alleviate this issue if we are not able to optimize the server sufficiently, including starting a secondary Alice server.
  • Currently, the server tick rate is averaging closer to 15-20 ticks per second as opposed to the previous 1-5 ticks per second, so we're making progress! The nominal rate is 20 ticks per second.

Please note that Mo's Creatures has been removed for the time being because its large piece of the "processing time budget" that we have for each 1/20th of a second for a server tick.

Edit: Mobs have been temporarily disabled until we better fix the block lag. The slot limit is back to 40 for the time being. You'll be able to buy spawn eggs at a shop in spawn.

Sorry for the delay, but Alice is back up! Chunks are generated and the world is limited to a size of 10,000 by 10,000 blocks.

During the downtime, I also added /allowfriend /tofriend /home /sethome and /spawnpoint (with a large amount of hacky code, so please report any issues). They work like their old equivalents on the other servers (requiring Enderpearls and whatnot), and /sethome in particular requires you stand on a bed.

If you have been Alice, you might have noticed that the server ranges from "working really well" to "completely unplayable block lag." A lot of the lag is due to new chunks being generated as people explore the world, so we've temporarily shutdown Alice as we generate chunks up to a radius of 5,000 blocks (or perhaps 6,000). This also means that you will not be able to build a base past this limit once the server returns. Sorry :(

EDIT: The world has been generated and the server should be up soon.

Due to problems of lag, the server slot limit has been dropped to 30. We are trying to see what to do about the high chunk generation cost, so in the mean time, please try to pick another time to play if the server happens to be full.
