Alice 1.4 is back up!

Alice 1.5 is still being prepared, but we expect it to be up in 1-2 hours.

Join us on the TeamSpeak server!

Alice is currently having problems, but I will look into it once 1.5 is launched.

UPDATE from Pathaleon: The datacenter where the server is located is currently experiencing networking issues, these are unknown to us but they are actively working to correct these problems. Until then you can either keep trying or just wait for the green light from us.

Again this is nothing to do with 1.5 and is actually rather disappointing for us too because this means launching the 1.5 server may also be problematic.

Sorry for the inconvenience :(

UPDATE 2 from Pathaleon: The datacenter has told us that the network issues are partially resolved but there is still the possibility of unstable latency (lag spikes).

Here's what happening with the next version of Alice:
  • Alice 1.5 (later to be 1.6) will be run on a separate server.
  • Alice 1.4 will continue as normal.
  • There will no item or build transfers. It will essentially be a full reset.
  • We are aiming to open the server tomorrow (or at worst, the day afterwards), Pacific Daylight Time (UTC -0700).
  • When we can, we will update Alice 1.5 to 1.6
  • We have no plans to update Alice 1.4 to 1.5.
  • You will start with beginner items as you did on 1.4.

I made something for use in Alice 1.5.

You're welcome.

(Yes, it works for all kinds of plate.)

I know quite a few people are not happy that we haven't done any sort of reset in the past few weeks, so I've decided to try a poll and see what peoples' opinions on the matter is at the moment.

Please note: This will not be the final decision, but it might greatly affect the team and SK's indecisiveness.

Recently, there has been an ongoing conflict between GregoriusT, the creator of GregTech, and mDiyo, the creator of Tinkers' Construct.

Basically what has been happening is Greg making more and more changes to vanilla recipes, mDiyo reverting some of them if Tinkers' Construct is installed, which in turn angers Greg.

This has eventually resulted in Greg putting code in GregTech that simply makes the game crash if Tinkers' Construct is installed (an ItsNotMyFaultException). This can be classified as malicious code, if not flat out malware...

Now of course, we don't want mods with malicious code in them in our modpack. (This particular code even makes the game unplayable.) If Greg doesn't do anything about this (which says a lot about his attitude against other modders and end users), we'll have to find a solution for this. Some of the things we can do are:

- Completely remove GregTech from our pack. This would, however, also arguably make it too easy to reach endgame (though that is not the point of Minecraft if you ask me).
- Stay with an older version of GregTech, until Greg gets rid of his malicious code. If he doesn't get rid of the code, we would have a problem when we update to 1.6, similar to the RedPower problem when updating to 1.5. We would also miss out on new features and bug fixes.

We have even considered coding our own version of GregTech, with only the good and nice stuff in it. However this would take a while, as most of us still need to learn how to code with Minecraft Forge, if not Java itself :I

I have created a poll here to see if GregTech is actually still wanted these days. Greg has been adding more and more changes to vanilla to make it more 'realistic' lately (just more tedious if you ask me), some of which are not even configurable. Even some of us who would always defend GregTech are now losing respect for Greg, as he is clearly going too far at this point.

So what's your opinion on all this? Or do you have another solution to this problem? Please voice it below.

EDIT: Greg has disabled his crashing code, and TConstruct's disabling of GregTech's vanilla changes is now a config option. Crisis averted. Sorta.

So most of you should know by now that the update to Minecraft 1.5.2 is probably going to happen within then next few weeks. The mod pack team has been hard at work to get the update done. Some significant things are going to happen once the update is releasing. Here's a list of things that you might want to prepare for (even if the chunk marking thing ends up not happening after all).

The promised 1.5 update has taken a while, to put it lightly. We hope to put out some news about an update soon (we may even jump to 1.6 at this rate, but that depends how quickly mods get updated).

We're currently in the process of building a new spawn for Minecraft 1.5. While I asked for builders in a previous thread, a lot of this is impromptu and we need to all be on at relatively the same time.

If you want to help build spawn, find sk89q in TeamSpeak when you see him and send him some screenshots. You can see the list of people in TeamSpeak without getting on on the SKCraft frontpage, on the right side, if you're logged in. You do not have to speak with a microphone, but it'd be helpful.

We're going for an Asian/Japanese style for spawn.

We'd like to build a new spawn for Alice.
  • We are looking for builders, but you need to be pretty good. Post screenshots, ideally in a texture pack that makes the build look pretty.
  • We need to pick a theme, but so far we've been thinking "Asian."
  • We also need to find a suitable texture pack (32x32).

Just for inspiration:

Also, imagine if the player market looked like this!
