Creepers have been re-enabled on Alice. They will not destroy blocks but will deliver concentrated pain to your body.

Alice has been updated. Changes include:
  • Fixed diamond pipe
  • Fixed automated crafting
  • General stability improvements
  • Added AdvancedMachines
  • Replaced Buildcraft/IC conversion mod with PowerConverters
  • Removed need for custom configs
    • Delete your old /buildcraft and /config folder!

Alice was down over last night Pacific time (this was not reported) due to some errors with Buildcraft pipes. It's fixed now, and there's a new update.

UPDATE (9:40 CST): Build 12w3b has been released and fixes a critical bug. You do not need to have mods installed in the /mods folder (only the jar is required).

Alice has been updated. Changes include:

It's finally here! Thanks to some hard work by famerdave and myself, the modded server has finally launched to all SKCraft members. Note that we still run Minecraft 1.0.

We currently run the following mods:
  1. BuildCraft 2.x
  2. IndustrialCraft 2.x
  3. RedPower 2.x
  4. Forestry 1.2.x

To connect:
  1. Download the client mod pack
  2. Ensure you are a SKCraft member
  3. Connect to: alice.sk89q.com

Frequently asked questions
  • What game mode do you currently run?
    • We currently are a survival server. Much like Vincent, items must be achieved without spawning. Commands such as /spawn and /home do not work, either.

  • Is there public electricity?
    • Yes! Plots near the city have electrical access points under a cobblestone slab. Note that electricity has been limited to 32 eu/t. If you happen to need more, contact myself or famerdave and we can work something out. Tampering with the electrical grid will result in your electricity being cut off.

  • Where can I suggest mods?
    • Right here! Note that we try to ensure a level of stability and quality, so not all mods may be accepted.

Some other things to note
  • Explosions have been disabled, although damage may still be incurred
  • Please refrain from building large mines/quarries near the city
  • Large machinery should be located underground or away from the city. Please provide your own energy (or talk to me or famerdave to work something out)
    • Note that special cases will not be unlimited, but rather metered at a higher rate

  • Moderators have the ability to remove creations that cause sever lag
  • Cheats, hacks, etc. are not allowed and will result in a ban
  • Bans will carry over to both Vincent and James

The update fixes some critical multiplayer bugs that can lead to corrupt inventories, etc. Alice will be fully launched to the public soon.

There appears to be a pretty terrible memory leak after we updated to MC 1.1. Until we get this fixed, you will notice:
  • Every hour or two, the server will solidly freeze for up to five minutes as Java tries to reclaim memory. You and everyone will be kicked, but there will be no data loss. The server will be unresponsive during this time.
  • After 24 hours or so, the server will crash entirely. We're hoping to avoid this with periodical server restarts until we get the problem fixed.

This mostly impacts the survival server.

The Vincent server is back. It apparently ran out of memory, though that's the first time that has happened. (Perhaps it's due to MC 1.1)

James and Vincent are now running 1.1. You will have to update your game to MC 1.1 in order to connect, or you will receive "Outdated client" upon trying to join.

New features of Minecraft 1.1 include:
  • Bows are now enchantable, with four new enchantments specific to bows: Power, Punch, Infinity, and Flame.
  • Arrows which are on fire now set entities they hit on fire.
  • Golden Apple recipe changed to use gold nuggets instead of gold blocks.
    • Golden Apples now fill 4 hunger rather than 10 and cause regeneration for 4 seconds rather than 30.

  • 56 new language translations, including fictional ones such as Pirate.
  • Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes.
    • Swamp land and water colors now smoothly transition to other biomes.

  • Re-added beaches.
  • Taiga biomes now contain snow and ice.
  • Decreased randomness of enchantment levels at Enchantment Tables.
  • Biomes are slightly more varied, with differing elevations of land in previously flat biomes.
  • Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds from 30.
  • Added Spawn Eggs to creative mode.
  • Added a world type option (available types: Superflat and Default).
  • Removed collision box from Ladders.
  • Sheep eat Grass (converting it to Dirt) and Tall Grass to regain their Wool.
    • Sheep only drop 1-3 wool per shearing.

  • The collision box on Fence Gates now matches that of Fences instead of being square.
  • Fence Gates can now be opened and closed with redstone.
  • Leaves now have a 1/200 chance of dropping Red Apples.
  • Blacksmith buildings in NPC Villages now hold chests with loot of the same type asStrongholds
  • Void fog removed in creative mode.
  • Melons and Pumpkins can now grow on Dirt, instead of only on Farmland.
  • Magma Cubes can now drop Magma Cream on death.
  • The distance that wheat attracts friendly mobs has increased from 2-3 to 8-9

Bug fixes:
  • Fixed "Sniper Duel" achievement not working.
  • Fixed Powered Rail Non-Depowering Bug
  • Fixed Powered Rail Failure-to-Update on Placement Bug

New bugs:
  • Major crash bug in the loading screen for some users
  • Possible to fall trough a block of Farmland or Soul Sand when walking over its edge.
